The Funus Imaginarium Documentary

The Funus Imaginarium is a public funeral taking place on the 9th of October 2010. But a lot of the steps taken towards the realization of the funeral are being played out behind closed doors, in the offices of Das Beckwerk or Glyptoteket, in the workshop of a puppetmaker and an architect, in the minds of students, theoreticians, nurses and doctors thinking and acting with Das Beckwerk, or in the homes of the people personally connected to Claus Beck-Nielsen. Yet those parts of the process are essential to the making of the funeral as an event. The people who contribute in the process are all part of the Funus Imaginarium, and they are all dealing with the questions of death and identity that the project raises.

The deathbed building arrives at Dantes Plads from the south in a September night between Sunday and Monday

Those many perspectives, problematics and questions that Funus Imaginarium puts forth have intrigued us to pursue the process visually. With our camera we attempt to navigate through all the layers of the event, trying to illuminate how they are connected. With the documentary we want to communicate an academic research to a broader audience, but also show how the Funus Imaginarium plays with the Unheimlichkeit of a ghost story and becomes fiction in the mind of the viewer. Apart from the movie a Funus Imaginarium Documentary-homepage will present hundreds of small pieces of film, giving everyone a chance to find their own way around Funus Imaginarium.

The Funus Imaginarium Documentary is: Cæcilie Østerby Sørensen (director, producer and script), Anne Kølbæk Iversen (script and producer), Sirid Laursen (camera), Mia Isabel Edelgart (camera), Andreas Pallisgaard (sound and music composer), Mads Nielsen (editing) and Søren Meisner (graphic and homepage).

The documentary is produced in collaboration with IT-MEDIA at the University of Copenhagen
